Versions, forks, and selections
FilmOpen keeps authors’ alternatives visible. A version is a complete file, and selecting one does not erase the others.
Understand the choices

| Version | A complete authored file, identified by v1, v2, and so on. |
| Fork | A copy of an existing version under your author handle, retaining its origin. |
| Official | The version selected for the project, named by a small pointer file. |
| Pick | The version you personally prefer, recorded in your commentary. |
| Label | An optional short name displayed beside a version number. |
These are project-file conventions. The author handle is not an authenticated identity, and a director role in a local file is not a website permission.
Fork a version
Section titled “Fork a version”Select the version you want to build on and choose Fork. Set your author handle in Settings first. The new version belongs to your handle and records what it was forked from.
The application offers editing for your own project version. If you are viewing somebody else’s project file, fork it before changing its contents. Other entity types do not yet have their own editing forms.
Set the official version
Section titled “Set the official version”A director can use the star control to set the selected version as official. Clearing the star removes the pointer; it does not delete the version itself.
The official pointer expresses a creative selection. It does not lock the selected file or grant permission to execute plugin code.
Set your personal pick
Section titled “Set your personal pick”Use the check control to record your preferred version. Any viewer with a handle and a writable project can make a pick. Your choice does not replace the director’s official selection.
Changing the pick updates your commentary. The Compare view can then show that version beside the official and other alternatives.
Label a version
Section titled “Label a version”On your own version, use the label control to assign a short name. Labels help distinguish versions in lists. A fork does not inherit the source version’s label.
Why a control may be disabled
Section titled “Why a control may be disabled”The tooltip explains the reason: no author handle, read-only content, or a director-only operation. Shared-library content is read-only in the current application.
